Fat Grafting (Fat Transfer)
Fat grafting or lipotransfer is a technique by which fat is harvested from one body area and then added to another to enhance or improve the contour and volume. Several body areas commonly are well suited to treatment with fat grafting. Fat grafting has minimal downtime and utilizes very small incisions. Fat grafting is repeatable and many patients elect to have additional rounds of grafts to enhance contours further.
Breast Augmentation with Fat Grafting
Breast augmentation with fat grafting differs from traditional implant augmentation in that the breast is enlarged and enhanced using the patient’s own fat harvested from another body area. This process involves a specialized very gentle form of liposuction and fat processing to gather living fat cells from the harvest area and then a second procedure to carefully re-implant these cells into the breasts. Depending on the degree of size increase that a patient is hoping to achieve, more than one round of fat grafting may be necessary. As with any breast procedure, calcifications and lumps can occur. Breast studies including physical examination and mammograms, should be used to monitor every patient diligently. However, there is no evidence that fat transfer to the breast is less safe than any breast surgery. Large studies are ongoing to study fat grafting to the breast.
Buttock Augmentation with Fat Grafting (Brazilian Butt Lift)
The popularity of Buttock Implants or Enhancements has increased dramatically in the United States and Europe. Fat grafting offers an excellent means to these ends without the risks of implants. This technique uses your own fat other body areas. Fat is obtained via liposuction. The fat is then carefully processed and used to sculpt and contour your buttocks to the desired shape and size. Fat grafting avoids many of the problems associated with implants including rupture, malposition, and infection of a foreign body, as well visible or palpable edges. Fat grafting is repeatable and many patients elect to have additional rounds of grafts to enhance contours further.
Facial Enhancement with Fat Grafting
Facial fat grafting can help to restore a more full youthful contour to a depleted area of the face. This technique uses the fat other body regions which is obtained via liposuction. The fat is then carefully processed and used to fill and volumize the deficient regions of the face. Fat grafting is repeatable and many patients elect to have additional rounds of grafts to enhance contours further.
Hand Rejuvenation with Fat Grafting
Hollowing of the backs of the hands is a telltale sign of aging which can be distressful to some individuals. Fat grafting can help restore a less hollow, more youthful contour to these areas. Liposuction is performed from an area of fat excess and then this fat is then carefully processed and transferred to the areas of hollowing. Fat grafting is repeatable and many patients elect to have additional rounds of grafts to enhance contours further.
